Altan has trained at Woodlane since 2003. Last grading, taken on the 2006 Summer School, was to 3rd Kyu (Blue Belt). Altan gained two kumite awards (Gold and Bronze) at the 2005 Ishinryus and was placed in the 2006 Summer School Kata competition.

Bethany started to train at Woodlane in September 2005. Her last grading was in July, taking her to 7th Kyu (Yellow Belt). Bethany is 10 and apart from Karate, likes reading and going to Guides.
Oliver joined Woodlane in May 2005. After a few training sessions his Mum decided to join in rather than sit and watch. Boo and Oliver took their 8th Kyu (Red Belt) grading together in December 2006 and have since increased their training to twice weekly.
Brandon started karate at Woodlane in April 2006. Brandon is currently
an 8th Kyu Red belt and enjoys the Thursday lessons.
Brittany has been training since May 2005. She is currently a 5th Kyu (Green Belt) which she was awarded on the 2007 Summer School. Brittany entered the Ishinryu championships in October, following in the steps of her dad (Sensei Chris Vant) and sister Kimberley as a competition fighter. Brittany was placed second in Kumite at the Greater London competition held 18 February 2007 - seen here with her trophy from that event.
Chris attained Shodan grade (1st Dan) at the end of 2004. Training at Woodlane since the late 1980's Chris is a qualified Instructor and Class A Ishinryu association Judge. Part time Quizmaster and wannabee Paratrooper, Chris is also the primary author and maintainer of this web site.

Connor is currently a 7th Kyu (Yellow Belt) which he gained in December 2007. Connor has previously trained in Wada-ryu, achieving a Brown Belt in that style. Connor has trained at Woodlane since April 2007.
Daniel has attended Woodlane since 2004. His last grading was March 2007, where he reached 5th Kyu (Green Belt).

Errol Samuel
Errol started training at
Woodlane in 1998 and took his 1st Kyu (Brown Belt) on the 2007 summer
school.

Cameron
Georgie has trained at Woodlane since 1999 and reached 1st Dan (Black Belt) at the end of 2007. Georgie is a real asset to the club and sets a great example to the younger students.

Voted Woodlane junior Student of the year 2006 and 2007 - the first ever student to win in two successive years..
Ian has trained at Woodlane since March 2007. Red belt (8th Kyu) grading was taken in mid-June quickly followed by Yellow belt (7th Kyu) on the Summer Course. Now a 6th Kyu (Orange belt) after grading in December 2007.
As well as the grading pass, Ian also returned from Summer School with a 1st place in men's Kumite (up to 5th Kyu) and a 3rd place in Kata competition.
James restarted training at Woodlane in 2007 and took his 8th Kyu (Red Belt) grading in June. Achieved 7th Kyu (Yellow belt) in December 2007.
James entered his first competition in July and won first place in Boys Kumite (Novice to 6th Kyu).
James has trained at Woodlane since January 2002. Last grading was
March 2006, attaining 1st Kyu (Brown Belt). Active in

Welcome back to Jason who previously trained at Woodlane a few years ago.
Jason rejoined the club as a white belt in October 2006 and has worked hard and consistently since that time. In recognition of his efforts, the club instructors have awarded Jason his 7th Kyu (Yellow Belt).
Jordan enjoys all sports. Joining Woodlane in 2006, he has previously trained in Wada-ryu karate.
Jordan took his 8th Kyu (Red Belt) grading in December 2006 and says he is really enjoying the training sessions.
Kay has trained at Woodlane since 1998. Last grading was March 2007, attaining 1st Kyu (Brown Belt). Kay has been fortunate to see all of her six children attend Woodlane Ishinryu and is very proud that they have done so.
Awarded Woodlane Ishinryu student of the year and Woodlane Ishinryu champion student of the year 1999/2000. Voted Woodlane Senior Student of the year 2006.
Kemal has trained at Woodlane Ishinryu since since July 2006. Last grading was to 7th Kyu (Yellow Belt) in June 2007. Kemal trains twice weekly on Wednesday and Thursday night. Kemal is enjoying the sessions and has been keen to tell family and school friends about his training.
Kimberley has been a student at Woodlane since 1996 when she was just seven years old. Since then she has reached 1st Kyu (Brown Belt) as well as competing (and winning) in many competitions. Kimberley aims to get her black Belt before leaving for University.
Kimberley is currently the reigning champion in the "Interesting places to wear your Woodlane Ishinryu T-Shirt" competition - two miles high in freefall will be difficult to beat!
Meghan started training at Woodlane in April 2006 and enjoys the Thursday lessons and mixing with the other younger students. Meghan enjoys the way the instructors make the Thursday lessons fun. Meghan passed her Red Belt grading in December 2006.
Nicole started training at Woodlane in 2007 and gained her 7th Kyu (Yellow Belt) in December.
Paul trains regularly at Woodlane Ishinryu, his last grading was to 2nd Kyu (Brown Belt) at the 2007 Summer School. Voted senior student of the year 2005. Paul is a regular at competitions with successes including:

Most recent competition success was to be placed 3rd in Men's Kumite (up to 3rd Kyu) at the 2007 Summer school.
At 60, Ray is one of our more mature students. This didn't stop him achieving the coveted Shodan grade (1st Dan) at the 2006 Summer School. Ray joined Woodlane in 2003 following the merger of the former Goresbrook club into Woodlane - previous to this Ray had been training with Sensei Lee Smith and Sensei Tony Spinks since 1997.
Ray competed in the 2005 Ishinryu Championship in both the Veteran category and the Team kumite event, achieving 3rd place.
Voted Woodlane Senior Student of the year 2006.
Rebecca started training at Woodlane in April 2006 and has progressed from the Thursday (juniors) class to training twice a week with the senior classes. In December 2006 Rebecca achieved 7th Kyu (Yellow Belt). Rebecca's confidence has grown in abundance since joining the club.
Simon has trained at Woodlane since 2003. Simon attained 3rd Kyu Blue Belt at the 2007 Summer Course. Attending his first Summer Course in 2007 Simon returned with a trophy for 2nd in Men's Kumite (up to 3rd Kyu).
Steven has been training since December 2003. Last grading was March 2007 where he attained 5th Kyu (Green Belt). Competition achievements include:

Tony 'the cab' McQuire attained 3rd Kyu (Blue Belt) in March 2006. Training since 2003. Sometimes accompanied by daughters Megan and Lauren, Tony gets down the club whenever he can (work permitting).
Vasfi has trained at Woodlane since 2003. Currently a 2nd Kyu (Brown Belt) Vasfi continues to do well in Kumite competitions, returning from the 2007 Summer School with a 1st place in men's Kumite and a 2nd place in Cadet's Kumite.
